Choir membership

Members of the choir at Llangollen preparing for a performance of Sweeney Todd with Bryn Terfel
Entry to Nidus Children's Choir is open to any child aged from 8 to 18 who is committed, enthusiastic. New joiners do not have to be able to read music although it is helpful if they know some basics. We do not have an audition as such or experience however we are a competitive choir and therefore the training period before new singers are invited to perform or compete at major events may vary. It's a friendly group, and new and younger members are always helped by the older, more experienced members. We also regularly have former members helping, particularly in the run up to concerts and competitions.
Rehearsals are at the Nant Bran Centre in Upper Cwmbran (see Find Us), every Saturday during term times. They usually start at 1.15pm and finish at 2.30pm, although may go on longer if we need to practice more. There may be additional rehearsals in the run up to a major concert or competition. There are also occasional fun singing workshops when we get together somewhere different, rehearse and often have some fun activity, and we have an annual weekend trip away (including parents/guardians who wish to come) for team building and singing. Of course, we understand that it isn't always possible for a choir member to take part in a specific rehearsal.
In return for specialist choral training, it is expected choristers will attend all concerts and competitions and once they start a term stay for the whole term. The choir leadership and other parents/guardians will help with transport if required.
Nidus Children's choir is a community choir run by a team of experienced musicians/performers. Evelyn Nicholson, Gabriela Nicholson-Dunbar & Christian Jenkins train the choir and give their time freely for this. Nidus Theatre Arts sponsors the choir - its staff give time to help run the choir and it provides & heavily subsidises our normal rehearsal. However, we do have some running costs and, as well as fund raising, we ask for a small contribution of £15 per term per chorister to cover running expenses and subsidise choir events. We also raise funds at our concerts and other fund raising events.
Anyone interested in joining the choir should contact info@niduschildrenschoir.co.uk, or complete the form on our Contact Us page. The choir application form is below for you to download if you wish.
