GOLD MEDAL IN ABERGAVENNY

The Abergavenny Eisteddfod Sat 21 April 2018
The Choir sang superbly in the Abergavenny Eisteddfod conducted by Christian Jenkins. There was total silence during the performance from the audience, which went into loud cheers at the end. The choir were disciplined and provided great tone and dynamics! We had all arrived later in the afternoon. The children were delighted to be given the gold cash prize as well as be selected for the Abergavenny Gala Concert on June 16th. The delight and cheering from the children was compounded by Olivia Gibbs winning the 11-14 year group Vocal Solo and Dance and Amelia Hughes winning the Vocal Solo 14-18 and being selected for the Gala from the 14-18 age group! Both of them too, sopranos in the choir sang superbly. The audience requested an encore! Unusual ti say the least. The work goes on now with training new members and getting on with preparing future concerts and a workshop in the Priory Church of St Mary in Usk on the afternoon of Sunday 13th May-(open to the public.)

The Choir in the Nidus Theatre Arts Production of a Scene from 'Les Mis'.

Following the choir's successful performances at the Congress Theatre, Cwmbran the choir is practising for the performance at the Abergavenny Eisteddfod. After that- (and keep your fingers crossed!) there follows a steep curve in learning repertoire for upcoming concerts, and the most exciting news is that the performance in Swansea on 2nd December has been agreed , so at the same time, the choir will have to learn this demanding score at the same time is all else. They are all up for it!! Nevertheless plans are afoot for singing days or afternoons and a recruitment drive has resulted in six new members, which is magnificent to replenish our seniors who left for college and university. we are always interested in boys or girls who are musical or really enjoy singing. At the same time, a new facebook group for ex-members of the Nidus Childrens' Choir establishes a link between those who have left and also is proving a great success in keeping the Choir 'family' together, and various people have agreed to help the choir in various days!!! More Anon!
