At Newport Philharmonic Choir's Spring Concert last Saturday (May 14th), a collection was taken in support of Nidus fundraising drive. Catrin Williams bravely stood up in front of the audience to tell them about the choir, which I'm sure encouraged people to dig deep.

Cheques towards music, backing tracks & music folders have been received from the Community Councils of Croesyceiliog & Llanyrafon and Pontypool in the last month. We really appreciate their help & support.
Representatives of the choir’s committee went along to the respective presentation evenings to receive the awards…….maybe next year some of our older choir members could go along too. A very good time was had by all at our Treasure Hunt on Sunday.
Chris and Erika had worked very hard on making sure that the clues weren't too easy...and they were certainly successful in that. About 14 car loads of people took part, and we were all to be seen careering around the lanes of Cwmbran / Usk / New Inn and goodness knows where else. Locals must have wondered why on earth there were crowds of people studying the undergrowth, taking pasta out of village wells and counting holes in an underpass... The event culminated in coffee and cakes at the 'White Hut' where everyone pondered on how much the treasure hunt had disrupted their family harmony! After Chris and Erika marked all of the papers - no mean feat, the winners were declared - the Kindred family! They not only won the cash prize, but also won the honour of organising next year's Treasure Hunt. Paul was thrilled! A great family afternoon was had by all, and Chris and Erika deserve a medal for the work they put in. 3 members of Nidus Children's Choir; Hannah, Rhianwen & Dan were lucky enough to be chosen to attend the week-long Eton Junior Choral Course, held at Dean Close School in Cheltenham over the Easter holidays.
Eton Choral Courses provide vibrant vocal training and choral experience to enthusiastic young singers and the concentrated and varied performing experience is of equal benefit to everyone who enjoys singing. The courses are concentrated and fun, and an ideal opportunity to perform choral music to a very high standard with like-minded musicians The 3 of them thoroughly enjoyed the course, despite it being very hard work. Their parents were able to attend an end-of-course concert where they performed some modern secular pieces in the school’s theatre before moving to the chapel to hear Mozart’s Requiem joined by some excellent adult singers. They all made many new friends, and are hoping to be able to attend again next year. |
