The festival consists of around 25 different competitions celebrating song, music and dance. Nidus has competed at the Eisteddfod twice previously; in 2009 and 2010, coming third in the Junior Choir competition in 2010.
This year, for the first time, Nidus entered two choirs in the competitions; a Senior Choir, consisting of choir members aged 11-16 and a Junior Choir, consisting of choir members aged 8-13.
The Senior Choir competition had 17 choirs in it in total, with most of the choirs being at the upper end of the age range. Despite this, the Nidus Seniors gave an excellent performance; their first with a tenor and bass section. Unfortunately, they weren't placed in the top three.
The Junior Choir competition had 6 choirs in total, all of an extremely high standard, and comprising some of our familiar "adversaries" including Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion and Ysgol Glanaethwy. I'm really pleased to report that despite the stiff competition, the Junior Choir were once again placed third.
As well as the competitions, and spending time watching other performers at the Eisteddfod site, the choir took the time to go and sing to residents of a local care home, which was thoroughly enjoyed by both residents and carers alike.
We also had a free afternoon, which some people spent exploring Chester, and others visiting Chester Zoo. Although we experienced a lot of rain over the few days, we were lucky that afternoon, which was really warm & sunny.
In the evenings, parents, grandparents and children all socialised together, and on the last night, we played cards in the pub adjoining our hotel - at one point there were at least 20 of us playing "Neil's game"
Despite the early mornings (both competitions took place first thing in the morning), the late nights and the "snug" coach, we all had a brilliant time with a lot of laughs and as always we were extremely proud of the children, and everything they achieved.
